How Does Hospice Care Differ from Other Kinds of Healthcare?
The focus of hospice is the provision of palliative (comfort) and supportive care providing to patients with a limited life expectancy and their families in the patient’s home or a home-like setting by an interdisciplinary team of hospice professionals.

The Philosophy of Hospice believes…

  • Death is a natural part of the cycle of life
  • Compassionate and quality palliative care is needed
  • Quality of life is often more important than quantity
  • The patient and family comprise the unit of care and they are in control of care decisions

Hospice emphasizes quality, rather than quantity of life. Hospice care neither hastens nor postpones death; life is affirmed and dying is regarded as a very personal experience and a natural part of life.
Hospice cares for the whole family- not just the patient. Under the guidance of each patient’s physician, the Hospice of Green Country care team provides pain and symptom relief. Experienced professionals also care for the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones.
Hospice offers palliative (comfort-oriented) care rather than curative treatment. Under the direction of a physician, Hospice of Green Country staff and volunteers focus their efforts on enabling each patient to live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Hospice of Green Country offers a specialized care program for people with a limited life expectancy who are no longer seeking curative treatments. Patients’ medical and emotional needs are supported in the comfort of their own homes or home-like settings. This allows patients the opportunity to be surrounded by their loved ones — making every moment count.

The full cost of hospice services is covered by Medicare and insurance for many patients. However, Hospice of Green Country provides quality, compassionate end-of-life care to patients and families - regardless of ability to pay.

Testimonial

"We recently lost our wife and mother, but were fortunate to have come into contact with the greatest organization- Hospice of Green Country. As caregivers, we had the opportunity to meet many of their expertly trained and compassionate personnel. They not only provided excellent physical and medical care, but also provided a tremendous amount of emotional support to our family. Now we believe that not all angels are in heaven. Those who feel like supporting an organization that properly uses all donations should support Hospice of Green Country."
